Douglas fir I/III re-sorted KD brushed Terrace board 26 x 145mm fixed lengths

The Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii), originally from western North America, has been planted in Central Europe and Germany (Black Forest and Rhineland-Palatinate) for over 100 years and is valued as a fast-growing wood species. It is an inexpensive alternative to the Siberian larch. The Douglas fir has a light reddish-brown color with a pronounced change from the light early wood to the darker late wood.

Douglas fir is a medium-hard softwood species and can be easily worked with all tools. The bulk density is mainly in the range of 400kg to 700kg per cubic meter of wood (at approx. 15% wood moisture). Due to its natural durability (DIN-EN 350-2, corresponds to class 3-4) it can be used outdoors. Structural wood protection should be observed.

Holes for the fastenings must always be made to prevent the fastening screws from being unscrewed and also to avoid possible cracks in the wood.

The term KD describes the drying method used to dry the wood from its fresh state to 16-18%. In this case, it is a technical drying in a drying chamber under controlled conditions.

Swelling and shrinking:
Douglas fir has a medium swelling and shrinking behavior. The dimensional changes caused by swelling and shrinking must be taken into account when laying the decking. A gap of at least 4mm must be maintained when laying the boards (with a wood moisture content of 16-18%).

Ingredients:
Ferrous metals can cause discoloration when in contact with water-soluble ingredients. Therefore, the fasteners (screws) must be made of stainless steel (at least A2).
